Sleep For Fat Loss Part 1
January 29, 2013 8:44 pm / Posted in Articles, Blog, Personal Training StudioYou can lose more weight, get better performance, have less stress, feel stronger, and live better by getting the right amount of sleep. In this blog series I am going to talk about the importance of sleep regularity for weight loss and health. By simply following this habit, you can jumpstart your metabolism and reduce overall stress, giving you better body transformation results.
Lack of sleep can make you gain body fat
When the body doesn’t get enough sleep, we feel low in energy and tend to eat more to compensate for that low energy. The lack of sleep also impacts the insulin resistance of our cells, and this can disrupt glucose metabolism. Glucose is the simple sugar that is the body’s main source of energy. It is the end product of digestion. In order to drive that glucose from your blood into your cells, the pancreas secretes insulin. Secreting the right amount of insulin is critical so that our cells are able to grab and process the glucose, giving us energy for movement, repair, growth, or other bodily functions.
When you are “insulin resistant”: your cells resist the normal effects of insulin and you need much higher levels of the hormone to drive that glucose into your cells. This is taxing on your organs and prevents the efficient metabolism of energy, meaning more body fat accumulation and fat loss resistance.
So, getting the right amount of quality sleep can protect us against being in a state of high blood sugar and high insulin. High blood sugar and high insulin is a risk factor for low energy, fat gain and type 2 diabetes.
In the next article I will talk about how you can improve your sleep scheduled to maximize your sleeping gains.
